Why MTP/MPO Cables Excel in High-Density Data Centers

January 08, 2026

How Do MTP/MPO Fiber Cables Enhance High-Density Cabling?

Maximizing Port Density in Limited Space
MTP®/MPO connectors consolidate 12, 24, or even 32 fibers within a single interface, dramatically increasing port density over traditional LC duplex solutions. This high-density design allows data centers to accommodate significantly more connections within the same rack and floor space, optimizing physical layout while maintaining a clean, organized cabling infrastructure.

Streamlining Cable Management in Dense Environments
Managing a vast array of individual cables presents a major challenge in high-density deployments. MTP®/MPO technology simplifies this by integrating multiple fibers into a single, robust cable assembly. This consolidation drastically reduces the total cable count, freeing up critical space in pathways and cable trays. For example, KEXINT customized MTP®/MPO-12 trunk cable can support up to 144 or 288 fibers in one run, effectively replacing dozens of duplex patch cords. This not only enhances airflow and improves organization but also reduces the risk of connectivity errors and simplifies ongoing maintenance.

Accelerating Deployment in High-Density Configurations

MTP®/MPO systems are designed for efficiency, typically leveraging factory-pre-terminated, plug-and-play trunk cables. These solutions enable the simultaneous connection of multiple fibers, eliminating the need for time-consuming and skill-intensive field splicing or termination. For instance, when scaling a data center from 10 to 50 racks, deploying KEXINT high-density MTP®/MPO cabling for inter-rack connections can slash installation time and labor costs, minimize potential downtime, and ensure a reliable, high-performance network from day one.

Ensuring Scalability for Future Demands
MTP®/MPO fiber solutions are built for the future, readily supporting high-speed applications in SANs, AI clusters, and high-performance computing environments. They provide the essential backbone for high-capacity, low-latency data transmission and can seamlessly scale to support 200G, 400G, and beyond when used with advanced transceivers like QSFP-DD or OSFP. With inherent forward compatibility and excellent scalability, KEXINT MTP®/MPO solutions protect current infrastructure investments while providing a clear, cost-effective migration path for tomorrow's bandwidth requirements.

KEXINT MTP®/MPO Fiber Cable Family for High-Density Applications
KEXINT provides a comprehensive range of MTP®/MPO fiber cables engineered to address the stringent requirements of various high-density environments. Our solutions deliver reliable, high-performance interconnections that form the backbone of modern, scalable data centers.

MTP®/MPO Jumpers
KEXINT MTP®/MPO jumpers are terminated with MTP®/MPO connectors at both ends in a straight-through configuration, making them the optimal solution for short-distance patching inside cabinets or between neighboring racks. They enable direct, high-density connections to optical transceivers and facilitate efficient links between MTP®/MPO patch panels, cassettes, and active equipment. KEXINT MTP®/MPO-12 jumper provides a compact and robust solution for 40G, 100G, and 200G direct-attach applications.

MTP®/MPO Trunks

MTP®/MPO trunk cables are available with MTP®-to-MTP® or MTP®-to-LC Uniboot connectors. Their dual-jacket design enhances crush resistance, protects the fiber core, and ensures stable performance over long-distance transmission, making them ideal for cabinet-to-cabinet connections. These cables are used in structured cabling to establish permanent links between switches or between switches and servers, supporting one-time deployment of fixed cabling across functional areas, with all Moves, Adds, and Changes (MAC) handled at the patch panel front end. The series supports both parallel and duplex applications.
